Jane Iredale’s lip definer can be applied under lipstick or balm to create a lush lip look. At $13, it’s a natural steal. The pencil applies smoothly and contains medium-to-high pigmentation.

This is a straightforward and clean ingredient list. Three cheers for that! But let’s check out the most prevalent ingredient in the list, hydrogenated jojoba oil…
Plain ole’ jojoba oil is a golden oil extracted from the seeds of a desert shrub, Simmondsia chinensis. But our lip definer here uses a hydrogenated form of jojoba oil. What the heck does that mean? Hydrogenated jojoba oil once started as jojoba oil but had hydrogen added to it under high pressure to create a hard, crystalline wax ester. Perfectly safe for cosmetic use, hydrogenated jojoba oil is particularly suited to “stick” makeup formulations such as eyeliner, lipstick, and–in this case–lip liner.
Application Tip
Apply to an exfoliated and moisturized lip for the best effect.
