Finding a safe sunscreen is no easy endeavor. The so-called “kid-safe” sunscreens at the drugstore are often so full of questionable chemicals that I don’t feel comfortable using them on a child. But the Baby Sunscreen SPF 30+ by Badger has passed the test of safety. It provides a variety of benefits: UVA and UVB protection, water resistance, and safe ingredients.
Inside the Ingredients
Active Ingredient: non-nano uncoated zinc oxide (18.75%)
Ingredients: organic extra virgin olive oil, organic beeswax, organic jojoba oil, organic cocoa butter, organic shea butter, organic lavender essential oil, tocopherol, CO2 extract of organic seabuckthorn.

In the realm of natural sunscreen agents, non-nano zinc oxide in cream form is as good as it gets. There is some controversy over the benefits of non-nano mineral sunscreens over their nano counterparts, but since nanotechnology is still relatively new, I’d rather play it safe and avoid putting nano particles on my daughter, if possible.
The major downside to Badger sunscreen–and other natural sunscreens–is the whitish hue it imparts on skin. Hopefully the FDA will soon approve some of those advanced, non-hormone disrupting sunscreens currently available to European consumers.
