Antonym may call this stunner a lipstick, but I think of it as a lip crayon. It has all the best qualities of a lip crayon: the staying power of a pencil plus the smoothness of a lipstick. And, as we’ve come to expect with Antonym, it has a certain modern-meets-natural novelty.
The Antonym Natural Lipstick is $17. Purchase it here.
My color, Pinkish, isn’t your typical blush pink. There’s nothing boring about this pink. It is fresh and flattering. But be sure to check out the other two shades Antonym’s Natural Lipsticks come in.

Most of these ingredients are a mouthful. But with a little digging you’ll find that they are high-tech naturals. So sure, you’ve got the moisturizing power of shea butter and sunflower seed oil. And vitamins C and E provide important antioxidant action. But some of these other unintelligible ingredients are just as important. For instance, the inclusion of glyceryl dihydroxystearate, a specific type of glyceryl diester made from refined vegetable oils, is crucial to the smooth texture of this lipstick. And as odd as octyldodecyl stearoyl stearate may sound, it is a widely used fat-based skin conditioning agent with a satisfactory safety record.
More and more natural cosmetics makers are incorporating very safe but difficult-to-pronounce ingredients into their products. And while I believe there will always be an important place for simple, clean beauty products, I can’t help but get excited by formulations like this. Formulating a worthwhile lipstick is so much more than a few beneficial plant oils and mineral pigments. And I believe Antonym has found that sweet spot between performance and safety.
