The Essaouira Perfume Oil is a new natural fragrance for spring and summer.
It’s crisp and fresh, with just a hint of sensual spice.
The Scent
If Kahina’s Fez perfume is a sultry night out, then this Essaouira perfume is sunny day exploring the Moroccan coast with friends.
Kahina describes the Essaouira Perfume Oil this way on their website: “Light rose and woodsy sandalwood mingle with herbaceous geranium and lavender, accented by a bright note of pettigrain.”
Since I’ve been using it, I find myself constantly inhaling the aroma from my wrist. It’s that delicious. I could never do the same with a mainstream department store perfume…I’d get a headache in no time. But I don’t need to worry about such complications with this naturally nontoxic scent.
The Inspiration
The name, Essaouira, comes from a stunning seaside village in Morocco. Pronounced essa-weera, the town is characterized by its impressive fortress walls and blue fishing boats. When the fortress was built in the 18th century under the guidance of a French engineer, it became known first as “Souira” (“the small fortress”) and eventually “Es-Saouira” (“the beautifully designed”).
Today Essaouira is a favorite spot for beach goers. It also has vibrant trade in cabinet making and, of course, fishing.
Kahina’s perfume evokes the spirit of this rich historical city.
Inside the Ingredients
The fragrance is a blend of pure steam-distilled essential oils in a base of organic jojoba oil. 100% of the ingredients are of natural origin, and 88.73% are organic.
Although Kahina does not disclose exactly which essential oils are in this perfume, we do know that it’s free of potentially harmful petrochemicals commonly found in mainstream perfumes. (For more information about why some perfumes can be so problematic for human health, check out the EWG’s Not So Sexy.)
Kahina’s perfume uses only natural, safe ingredients. And if you’ve never tried a quality natural perfume such as this one, you’ll be surprised by how alive and luxurious the scent is.
The Packaging
The solidly-constructed miron glass bottle is topped with a stainless steel roller ball applicator.
I’ve traveled with this perfume, and often keep it in my purse—and I’ve never had a problem with leaks.
