These serums feel like the future of natural skincare.
They tackle these increasingly common skin problems:
- Impaired barrier function.
- Inflammation.
- Adult acne.
- A compromised or unbalanced skin microbiome.
The Barrier Restore Serum, Soothing B3 Serum, and Intensive Repair Serum aren’t the same old thing. These serums are inspired.
A Unique Collaboration
This trio of serums is a collaboration between the high-end natural skincare line Marie Veronique and Paris-trained skincare specialist Kristina Holey.
Due to the shift in skincare challenges Kristina saw in her clients, she pursued the development of these serums.
“These three products are a truly organic result of the demand I have seen from my clients. Over the past year I have been seeing many repeating cases of symptomatic skin coming into the studio. These symptoms were a result of a compromised barrier function due to either internal imbalance (hormonal shifts and imbalances, stress, poor diet/lacking of essential micronutrients) or from topical stress (over cleansing, exfoliation, topical steroids, etc.).”
What is Impaired Barrier Function?
The skin, as its most basic function, is a barrier. When that barrier is no longer healthy—or has been abused and misused—skin may appear tight, dry and sensitized.
Age can also adversely affect the skin’s barrier function.
An impaired barrier function not only causes annoying discomfort. It can worsen acne, hyperpigmentation, rosacea and the visible signs of aging. It also may give skin a dull or flaky appearance.
Here’s what’s going on: an increase in transepidermal water loss (TEWL) leads to the evaporation of skin’s natural moisturizing factor (NMF). There’s a simultaneous decrease in water-binding properties and a reduction in skin surface lipids.
In short, impaired barrier function is a serious impediment to healthy, glowing skin.
Barrier Restore Serum
This is a wonder product, one all people can benefit from.
It rebuilds and maintains the skin’s barrier function.
It has a myriad of skin-beautifying functions, such as:
- Balancing moisture levels to eliminate dry, dehydrated skin.
- Contains ceramides to maintain youthful, plump skin.
- Utilizes cholesterol to lubricate surface layers… which yes, sounds weird, but skin just drinks it up.
- Helps skin to become less reliant on lotions and creams.
- Soothing and repairing skin struggling with acne and dermatitis…and won’t break skin out.
- Minimizing the signs of aging.
- Fortifies sensitive skin.
This product is free of fragrance and essential oils, a wise choice for stressed or inflamed skin.

Soothing B3 Serum
The Soothing B3 Serum ($90) was developed to eliminate the stress from impaired barrier function.
B3—aka niacinamide—does more than sit on the surface of the skin. It stimulates the production of the skin’s naturally-occurring lipids. This, plus its powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity, make it an effective de-stressor for skin.
Here’s what the Soothing B3 Serum does:
- It controls inflammation, which may be presenting itself as redness, rosacea, dermatitis or acne.
- It rebalances the skin’s microbiome.
- It reduces blotchiness.
- It helps with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation commonly associated with healing acne.
- It gives skin a natural glow.
Ingredients: green tea extract, sodium hyaluronate, B3, pro-vitamin B5, sodium salicylate, n-acetyl glucosamine, epigallocatechin-3-gallate (ECGC), gluconolactone, knotweed bioflavonoids, carrot root extract, beta-glucan, galacto-oligosaccharide, bacillus ferment, leuconostoc/radish root filtrate ferment, licorice extract, cucumber fruit extract.
It contains 10% niacinamide.
The knotgrass flavonoids enhance the skin’s firmness and boost skin cell turnover rate.

The Intensive Repair Serum ($90) is a smart approach to adult acne. It’s totally different than old-school harsh medications which sterilize and strip the skin.

- It refines the complexion, giving skin a smoother, clearer and brighter appearance.
- It supports the skin’s microbiome.
- It rebalances oil production.
- It reduces inflammation.
- It clears skin congestion gently, without irritation or drying out the skin.

My Experience
I tested these serums for 3.5 weeks with great results. My 33-year-old skin is prone to breakouts, sensitivity, and redness. The Intensive Repair Serum was my particular favorite.
I had no problems with the products (no breakouts, redness, etc.), and they immediately improved the look of my skin. The Barrier Lipid Complex, layered under a facial oil, gave my skin a glowy, plump look. And the Intensive Repair Serum began lessening old acne scars and minimizing pores after the very first night of use. Those results continued—slowly, but ongoing—as time went on.
I probably would have had better results with the Soothing B3 Serum if I had active inflammation to calm!
How to Use
The Barrier Restore Serum can be used day or night. Simply apply a thin layer after cleansing and follow with your preferred facial oil or cream.
The Soothing B3 Serum can also be used day or night. Apply a thin layer after cleansing and misting. Follow with a facial oil.
Intensive Repair Serum should only be used at night, and sparingly. When you begin using it, start using it only two times a week. It can also be used as a spot treatment. Slowly build up to nightly use, if your skin can tolerate it. I had the best results by using it every other night. Be sure to follow up with a product to support the barrier layer of the skin, like the Barrier Restore Serum. Add in the Soothing B3 Serum if your skin is inflamed or dehydrated.
