Jane Iredale is a makeup line that I’m always excited to share with friends, because I know they’re going to love it. No matter the skin concern–fine lines, oiliness, allergies, breakouts–Jane Iredale is usually a good match.
Jane Iredale PurePressed Foundation is available for $40. Find it here.
The PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation by Jane Iredale is an exceptional powder foundation. Sheer and semi-matte, it applies and blends with ease. This spf 20 powder wears well and stays true to its original color all day long. To avoid a powdery finish, I lightly spritz my face with purified water after application. Jane Iredale sells a 3 oz hydration spray for $27, but I opt for the Evian spray at $12/5 oz instead.
Ingredients: titanium dioxide (14%), zinc oxide (3%), mica, boron nitride, dimethicone, stearic acid, plankton extract, algae extract, pine bark extract, pomegranate extract. May contain: iron oxides (CI 77489, CI 77491, CI 77499), ultramarines (CI 77007).

Interestingly, this makeup uses relatively large amounts of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. I’m cool with that. Neither of these popular natural sunscreen agents penetrate the skin barrier, disrupt hormones, or become unstable when exposed to light. Zinc oxide is an especially fabulous makeup ingredient because it is soothing and healing to skin, while offering extensive broad-spectrum protection (titanium dioxide, unfortunately, does not protect against long-wave UVA).

Boron nitride, although sinister sounding, is an inert and non-toxic compound used to absorb oil and increase adherence. Despite being synthetically produced, it is very safe for use in cosmetics.
Jane Iredale’s PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation is $52 for a 0.35 oz compact. Purchase it here.
The refills can be bought for about $40, depending on where you look online.
Available in 20 shades.
