The Clear Sailing Balancing Beauty Oil from Aphorism uses cold-pressed, plant-based oils to make skin look its best.
If your skin is a bit unpredictable, or prone to acne, you’ve got to check out this lightweight serum.
It soothes inflammation, evens out dry and oily spots, and helps skin find its natural radiance.
What Makes Aphorism Special
So many people are unnecessarily afraid of using oils on their skin. But it’s the cheap, heat- and air-damaged ones that have given oil a bad rap.
Clear Sailing contains 94% cold-pressed contents, underscoring Aphorism’s commitment to quality.
The woman behind the brand, Urvashi, understands that all oils are not created equal. Most plant-based oils are surprisingly fragile, and their methods of extraction and packaging have a huge impact on the quality of the final oil.
Heat-processed oils (which is most of them!) lack the nutritional integrity of their cold-pressed counterparts. Many lower-quality, lower-priced facial oils contain ingredients which have been refined or bleached using high heat—this happens even in products considered “natural”.
So not only are Aphorism’s products natural and often organic, they’ve gone a step further by utilizing cold-pressed and raw ingredients.
Aphorism makes some of of the finest skincare oils I’ve ever come across.
A Smarter Approach to Adult Acne
Adults with acne require a different strategy than teens. Anything overly drying—or just plain cheap—can make skin look older than it is. Products which may work for teenage skin may enhance fine lines, discoloration, or other undesirable signs of aging on the face.
Clear Sailing will not solve the underlying causes that create acne, but is an excellent tool to soothe inflammation, help existing spots disappear sooner, and balance oil production, all while enhancing the inherent beauty of skin.
This product has cleared up my existing breakouts (along with daily raw honey masks), brought balance to my imbalance-prone skin, and has worked equally well for daytime & nighttime use. My skin has undoubtedly become smoother, brighter and softer.
Inside the Ingredients
One of my all-time favorite skincare ingredients takes the lead in this formulation: organic green tea seed oil.
Ingredients: organic green tea seed oil, organic hemp seed oil, red raspberry seed oil, organic golden jojoba seed oil, organic grape seed oil, elderberry fruit extract, organic comfrey root extract, guava fruit extract, organic gotu kola extract, lecithin (derived from non-GMO sunflowers), tocopherols (non-GMO), sunflower seed oil, amazonian rosewood extract, organic geranium extract.
Extremely Safe | Reasonably Safe | Proceed with Caution | Insufficient Data |
Green tea seed oil, also known as camellia sinensis, is an ingredient that I’ve learned to love. It gives dull skin a brighter, more refined look. It’s cold-pressed from the seeds of the camellia sinensis plant, making it different than green tea extract, which is distilled from the leaves of the plant. Green tea seed oil helps with acne, by restoring skin’s elasticity and combatting inflammation and redness. It does all this while reducing the visible signs of aging.
Hemp seed oil is rich in chlorophyll. It can be helpful in fighting acne and maintaining skin’s moisture balance.
Red raspberry seed oil protects from aging factors like free radical damage and UV damage.
Extracts of comfrey, gotu kola and guava seed help soothe and restore skin.
There’s something else very important to note in this ingredient list: All ingredients have been disclosed. When you find a product that stands by all its ingredients—like this one—that’s a good thing.
Finding the word fragrance on the ingredient lists of other products means the company behind the product has chosen to not disclose all ingredients. Thanks to the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act of 1966, fragrance is considered proprietary information and allowed to be hidden from consumers. So while you see that single word on the label, it may contain any number of secret ingredients.
But here’s the good news: more and more companies are choosing to disclose all ingredients in their cosmetics, thus empowering consumers like you to make a choice with your eyes wide open. Transparency matters. And that’s just another reason I love this product.
How to Use
Apply to clean, damp skin. One pump should be enough. Massage gently onto the face and neck using circular motions.
Wait one minute for full absorption before applying sunscreen or makeup.
If your face is already dry, add one pump of the oil and three sprays of your favorite facial mist in the palm of your hand (I like this one and this one). Rub together, and press into the face.
