When confronted by something new and different, our preconceived notions can shackle us in close-minded limitation. We risk staying stuck in the same old rut, closed off to new possibilities.
When I first tried the Lavender Seafoam Facial Cleanser by 100% Pure, I’ll admit, I was surprised. Based on the name and packaging, I expected a cleanser that looked like the cream or gel formulation seen, well, everywhere. What I did not expect was a smooth greenish mud to come slithering out of this pretty pastel bottle.
What it Does
Formulated for oily, sensitive skin, the Lavender Seafoam Facial Cleanser combines the nourishment of seaweed and green tea with the purifying power of french green clay–which explains the mud-like consistency. As a cleanser it is unorthodox, but highly effective. In one fell swoop it removes makeup and deep-cleans pores, while providing a most gentle exfoliation.
Inside the Ingredients
Ingredients: seaweed (kelp, sea lettuce, & spirulina), organic green tea leaf extract, french green sea clay, saponified coconut oil, sodium ascorbate, tocopherol, sea buckthorn fruit oil, rosehip seed oil, pomegranate extract, grapefruit seed extract, rosemary leaf extract, lavender essential oil, cinnamon extract, thyme flower/leaf extract, goldenseal extract, oregano leaf extract, geraniol, limonene, linalool.

After using and loving this cleanser for the last month, I had to ask myself, Why did I ever expect natural facial cleansers to look like something pumped out of an airport bathroom soap dispenser? I’ll gladly choose swamp sludge any day.

A greenish mud would surprise me also. I am intrigued to try the 100% Pure Facial Cleaner for dry skin. I wonder what color that will be!

I haven’t tried their cleanser for dry skin. If you do, please let me know how you like it 🙂

I have heard that Lavender essential oil or any frangrant oils can be potential irritants to the skin. However, you have this ingredient listed in green, the highest rating. I am wondering if you have any further information on this topic and if it has effected your desicion to include it in your ‘QuickGuide: Top Natural Skincare Products’ list?

Hi Clare! Here’s a real-life illustration that I hope will answer your question: I’m allergic to tomatoes. Sometimes I come across skincare products that contain tomato extracts or derivatives. Because of how my body responds to tomatoes, I automatically avoid those products. But the problem isn’t with the tomatoes. Tomatoes are a wonderful, nutritious fruit that millions of people enjoy! The problem lies within my own body’s irregular response to tomatoes. So, skincare products containing tomatoes are not inherently bad… they’re only bad for someone allergic to tomatoes.
Generally speaking, lavender oil is a safe, natural ingredient in skincare with a longstanding safety record. It is used to calm eczema, heal blemishes, and is generally seen as having a “soothing” effect on mind and body. But some people have adverse reactions to lavender. This may be a mild intolerance or a full blown allergic reaction. So although skincare products containing lavender aren’t inherently “bad”, they should be avoided by anyone with adverse reactions to lavender.
As for the presence of this cleanser on the QuickGuide: Top Natural Skincare Products list, I believe that it is a great cleanser, but only for someone without sensitivities to lavender. For anyone with that kind of sensitivity, I’d recommend using fragrance + essential oil free products. One clean cleanser that may work for those with hypersensitive skin is Green People’s, which you can find here: http://thebeautyproof.com/green-people-system-for-ultra-sensitive-and-reactive-skin/.
I hope that helps:-)
