If you haven’t seen the Environmental Working Group’s Guide to Sunscreens, you’re in for a treat. In a world full of toxic sunscreen agents and confusing marketing ploys, the Guide is a consumer’s best friend.
The EWG sunscreen recommendations are split into two categories:
- The Best Beach & Sport Sunscreens (149 products total)
- The Best Moisturizers with SPF (62 products total)
Green brands are well-represented in the Guide, including:
- Andalou Naturals (including my personal BB Cream obsession)
- Aubrey Organics
- Badger
- Burt’s Bees
- California Baby
- Desert Essence
- Devita Natural Skin Care
- Keys
- Marie Veronique Organics
- MyChelle
- Nature’s Gate
A few unexpected brands in the Guide were a welcome upset to my preconceived notions. It’s encouraging to see mainstream brands like Aveeno, Cetaphil, Dermalogica, and Vichy embracing safe sun protection.
The Environmental Working Group publishes all this helpful, well-researched information as a free service to consumers while also advocating for improved policy in Washington. If you love the EWG as much as I do, please consider making a donation to support their important work. Or if you’re unsure, be emboldened by their Charity Navigator rating and their organizational intent.
