Hi! I’m Jacqueline. I’m part consumer advocate, part green beauty fangirl. I live in North Carolina with my husband and two daughters.
I created The Beauty Proof in 2012 to empower you to take ownership of your beauty routine in a way that promotes your health, your unique gorgeousness, and your confidence as a buyer and user of cosmetics.
There’s no sponsored content here. Just sharing helpful tips and really great products.
How The Beauty Proof was Born
Growing up, my dentist father was passionate about bringing much-needed dental care to disadvantaged people. My family spent summer vacations in places like Indonesia and Belize working in mobile dental clinics. I served as my dad’s assistant, gaining a fresh perspective on first world privilege.
Inspired by my father, I later majored in International Development at UCLA, with my primary interest being health issues affecting women in developing countries. I studied the staggering lack of resources that women around the world contend with. No clean water. Political disenfranchisement. A lack of basic health services. The things that I take for granted are a daily struggle for women elsewhere.
But what struck me is that women in the United States are barraged with an entirely different set of obstacles. Cancer, obesity, asthma and allergies… we have diseases of affluence.
We have anything and everything at our fingertips. And it’s hurting us.
All that we possess—our choices, our relative wealth, our access—is working against us. Or at the very least, it’s compromising our wellness potential.
I am passionate about the issues that affect women’s health. And since all journeys start with one small step, I’ve decided to change things in my own home and on my own bathroom counter. The Beauty Proof chronicles that journey.
Raising My Green Beauty IQ
For so many women, skin problems can take a heavy emotional toll. I get it. I’ve been there.
After my eldest daughter was born, my health shifted and my skin reflected that change. I became simultaneously prone to breakouts and hyperpigmentation. And I was unsure how to proceed.
So I went the route that seemed to be the most logical—I visited dermatologists. And my skin continued to worsen even with their creams, pills, and overpriced lasers. Although there were incremental improvements, my skin wasn’t becoming more beautiful, but seemed to get duller and older—quickly. By being medically manipulated into dryness and fragility, my skin became prone to further damage and imbalance. I was trapped in this cycle until I found my way out by using natural and holistic methods to get my health and my skin back in balance.
Hippocrates once said, “Healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity.” I found opportunity in the form of natural, holistic self-care. I stepped away from cheap, harsh, and synthetic products and entered into a new, gentler, way of caring for myself.
Whatever struggles you’re facing, and whatever healing you’re searching for, I pray you don’t give up on finding your opportunity! There’s nothing special about me or this blog. I’m just a regular woman with regular struggles, and I’ve had the good fortune to make a few breakthroughs that I can share with you now.
Today, I no longer feel frustrated with my complexion. I finally feel comfortable in my own skin again.
I hope what you find on this site gets you one step closer to your own breakthrough!
